Metric and Imperial Units in Construction Calculations

Metric and Imperial Units in Construction Calculations

Choose one working system for each calculation and convert at the beginning, not halfway through a formula. Length, area and volume need different conversion factors. A linear conversion must be squared for area and cubed for volume. Keep the original measurement beside the converted value for checking.

Worked example

1 ft = 0.3048 m; 1 in = 0.0254 m; 1 yd³ = 0.764554857984 m³
